Zhuji lies in the north of middle Zhejiang and the middle part of Qiantang River Valley, ranging 119¡ã53¡ä¡«120¡ã32¡ä East longitude and 29¡ã21¡ä¡«29¡ã59¡ä north latitude. It is on the combination belt of the two hilly regions of Southeast Zhejiang and Northwest Zhejiang, composed by the Kuiji low hilly area in its east, the Longmen Mount low hilly area in its west, the Puyang River valley basin in its middle and river networks plain in its north. Surrounded by mass mountains and hills, Zhuji leans from south to north, forming a north uncorked aisle-mode collapse basin. Zhuji¡¯s eastern and northern part are low hilly areas, being rich in forest and mineral resources. Zhuji boasts the eastern Kuaiji Mountain, with its highest peak Dongbai Mount, the highest point in Zhuji as well, of the altitude of 1194.6 meters, and the western Longmen Mountain, with its highest peak Sanjiejian, the highest peak in west Zhuji, of the altitude of 1015.2 meters. In the middle valley and basin, there are full of fertile soils and lands, and in the northern river networks plain, there are plenty of water resources. Puyang River crossed the whole area of Zhuji from north to south, with 67.6 km main stream of the river in Zhuji, and 8 branches unfolding in a shape of nervure.
Zhuji locates in the inner land of middle Zhejiang and subtropical monsoon climate region, with clearly demarcated four seasons, plenty of rainwater and illumination, and its annual temperature difference is higher than adjacent county in the same latitude, enjoying a typical characteristic of hilly and mountainous climate with obvious microclimate differences. The annual average temperature is 16.3¡æ, annual average rainfall is 1373.6 mm, annual average rainfall days is 158.3 days, with about 82% relative humidity, annual average sunlight is about 1887.6 hours, and annual sunlight probability of 45%.
Zhuji boasts 88 kinds of soils, mainly on the hilly red soil and valley plain rice soil. The vegetation in its area is one kind of the Zhejiang-An¡¯hui Hilly Area¡¯s Quercus glauca and Hardleaf Oatchestnut planting vegetation area and Tianmu Mount Gutian Hills¡¯ mountaneous vegetation area. Mineral resources are also abundant, including over 30 kinds of minerals, with gold, silver, lead, zinc, copper, uranium, molybdenum, fluorite, and marble in its southern part, boun coal, limestone, manganese, phosphor, and kalium in its northwestern part, and kaolin, graphite, dolomite, and sand in its whole area. It has 6 boun coal mineral belts and limestone mineral belts, and 3 gold mineral belts, being the main producing area of nonferrous metal, building material and mine productions in Zhejiang. Zhuji¡¯s waterpower containing content hits 46.3 thousand kilo-watts.
The rich land resources and fine geographic environment of Zhuji provides a sound exterior condition for its social and economic development. Zhuji¡¯s Agriculture boasts four main products, namely, grain, live pig, tea, and cocoon. Since 1950s, Zhuji has become the grain, live pig, and tea production base county (city) of Zhejiang, and the live pig, and tea production base county (city) of China. Its industry has formed a system of textile machine, light industry, apparel, hardware, mining, metallurgy, building material, and food processing as its backbone, with silk industry ranking into the national advanced list, and textile, machine, dust catcher, chain, cement and other productions has fine reputation. The export-oriented economy has developed continuously, with over 160 sorts of 10 categories including silk apparel, grain, oil and food, machines exported to over 60 countries and regions.
